Energy efficiency retrofits of commercial buildings a $400 billion market, says Pike Research report

The energy efficiency retrofit market recently received a major boost from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will provide substantial funding for renovations to federal buildings. However, this segment pales in comparison to the total U.S. commercial building market, which includes 70 billion square feet of space and represents one of the largest opportunities for energy savings, reduction of carbon emissions, and increased property values.

LEED 2009 to include LEED credits for regional environmental priorities

The U.S. Green Building Council has released the LEED regional credits as part of LEED 2009. The LEED credits encourage that specific regional environmental priorities be addressed when it comes to the design, construction and operations of buildings in different geographic locations. With the help of USGBC’s regional councils, chapters and affiliates, credits addressing six specific environmental issues within a region were identified from among the existing LEED credits.
